What actually worked was smaller and less exciting than any of that. I stumbled across something almost nobody was talking about.

At first, I laughed.

Who pays for phone wallpapers when there are thousands online for free?

Apparently...

A lot of people.

That single discovery completely changed the direction of my business.

I started designing minimalist line-art wallpapers for phones, using Canva's free tier, because it was the only business idea left I hadn't tried, and it cost me nothing to test.

The first sales were small and slow. What changed things wasn't a better design; it was fixing my listings, pricing collections instead of single wallpapers, and publishing on a schedule instead of whenever I felt inspired. By August, 2024, that shop was consistently bringing in $3,700 to $11,000 a month, depending on the season and how many new collections I shipped.
